Corfe Castle was an Historic Fortified castle. Started in the time of William the Conqueror and bashed about a bit by Cromwell. Now part of the National Trust, located overlooking the village of Corfe and situated between Swanage and Wareham. The Beautiful Swanage Steam railways stops here. The original castle was built in the eleventh century by William the Conqueror and has played an active part of armies getting bashed up around this part of Dorset. The castle is open to the public and on a sunny day is a real treat for the whole family with far reaching views. The village has excellent coffee shops and one of the busiest bakeries you will ever see. Planning permissions in Corfe have always been very tight and each building retains its original exterior. Even the Fire alarm boxes have to be stone grey in keeping with the overall appearance. From Corfe you can drive up through Kingston and over to St Aldhem's Head and a magnificent coast walk ending at he Square and Compass in Worth Maltavers
